Intersecta

Exhibit design

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History has the largest collection of invertebrates outside of Europe. However, the museum’s visitor-facing displays show a fraction of a fraction of it. As my senior capstone, a team of designers and I were tasked with telling the story of bugs in the museum. Working with the entomologists, we roamed for hours the endless racks of invertebrates, pinned in display boxes and coiled in oil-filled jars. We interviewed scientists, staff and museum guests, learning what they had, did and wanted.

The resulting exhibit concept was presented to the museum with a scale model and video, and a version was developed and built.
